What exactly is an ODC? How do I set one up?

An ODC, or Offshore Development Center, is an IT-development company located in any location that isn’t the one your company isn’t.

An ODC, or Offshore Development Center, is an IT-development company located in any location that isn’t the one your company isn’t. Usually, this location is another country like Vietnam, Mexico, or Russia.

There are two main reasons why an enterprise would build an ODC.

The first reason is to solve a problem without moving away from a business’s #CoreActivities. By doing this, they can increase productivity. For example, a financially-focused enterprise may create an ODC to help them with software-related manners while keeping core staff working on bank-related issues.

The second reason has to do with Cost. Different countries have different costs of living. Different costs of living mean different rates that you need to pay your workers. An engineer in Vietnam, for example, will cost far less than one based in the United States, despite having the same skillset. This can save money, further helping a business’ bottom line.

Of course, there are many challenges with setting up an ODC. That is why it’s important to:

  1. Properly clarify what needs your company has
  2. Determine which exact services your company needs
  3. List out and research potential partners before contacting them

If you’ve done it right, your company should be more than ready to digitize and thrive.
